Summary

The Italian DPA has imposed a fine of EUR 2,000 on the Federazione Nazionale degli Ordini dei Biologi (FNOB). In July 2024, the federation sent emails to a number of biologists on two occasions. To do so, it used certified emails, which meant that it was unable to address recipients in BCC. Therefore, the email addresses of every recipient were disclosed to every recipient. The authority treated this disclosure as processing without legal basis instead of a technical error.
